Fake News: Social Media Virus
Fake news evolved from seedy internet sideshow to serious electoral threat so quickly that behavioral scientists had little time to answer basic questions about it, like who was reading what, how much real news they also consumed and whether targeted fact-checking efforts ever hit a target.
Sure, surveys abound, asking people what they remember reading. But these are only as precise as the respondents’ shifty recollections and subject to a malleable definition of “fake.” The term “fake news” itself has evolved into an all-purpose smear, used by politicians and the president to deride journalism they don’t like.
Fake News is one of controversial issue in the Philippines, it was also the word of the year (2017) of “Collins dictionary”. It is the one of the biggest issue that Philippines encounter in the year 2017. Everyone has their own opinion what “fake news” is. For me , fake news is a fake or dummy information in online news and print news, spreading wrong information is one example of what fake news is. Here are the opinions of other about fake news:
“Fake news our those peddied by individuals or group posing as legitimate and fair media entities when, all the while, they are using their platforms to misinform and sway people in believing agenda that will favor them” –Crisch Abayon
According to Paolo Malig “Para sa akin ang fake news ay isang balitang kasinulanginan . Walang pruweba kung san nagmula , kathang isip lamang . At ginawa ng taong may masamang intensiyon.
Fake News is an invention of of fallacy informations that mislead viewers and followers- Rick C Desingano Fake has been a problem , even the senate experience fake news. Grace Poe has her own opinion about fake news, she said that the fake news is like e-version of budol budol which many of our people unable to distinguish fact from fiction fall victims to. It is not even farfetched that in the future fake news can trigger wars, I agree to her opinion, she is correct about the fake news, it is like a budol-budol in online. Fake News may affect many people who read it. It can affect the way he\she thinks about that news. It can also mislead something, Fake news is like a virus, it is easy toi spread but hard to remove to one’s idea . It can be very harmful however and this we must figure out how to suppress or hold people liable. For speech that is libelous and that causes a threat to individuals, for example troll attacks that encourage violence, there are already existing laws that can be used to go after the perpetrators.
In Joseph Morong , Fact or Fake , he discussed what fake news is. He also give example and give a list what are the greatest issue of fake news in the 2017. The fake news he share is the fake news about Bong Bong Marcos who wins in the election and Robredo cheats in election, this news is totally fake according to him. This news reaches total of 10,000 likes and share, which means many people read the article whether they believe or not.
“Fake news are lies with no verifiable facts, sources, masquerading as news.” –Joseph Morong, he added , it is like a poser or a reflection of the legit one.
Second fake news, May 1o 2017, is the alleged picture of Senator Risa Hontiveros and senator Kiko Pangilinan holding hands after their visit to Senator Leila de Lima in camp krame. Because of this fake news, mega star Sharon Cuneta show her opinion about the issue saying “ there is no truth to the rumours going arount that Kiko and Senator Risa Hontiveros are having an affair (holding hands).” She said
The third news is the death of Imelda Marcos reaches 4 000 share and likes. This news fools many people about Imelda Marcos. Senator Imelda Marcos gave and shares her comment about this fake news
Next, the “Duterte offers 250 thousand to be paid to those OFWs and his\her relatives. This news popout from the Facebook page “ Sen. Manny Pacquiao trending news today”
The last one is the fake advisory saying that “walang pasok” that fooled most of the students nationwide. Because of that, students is confused about their schedule and what is true and what is not.
Another sad thing here is that those fake news spreaders are those people who are working for the President. One example is Mocha Uson, the President’s Presidential Communications Operations Office Assistant Secretary, and the eventually labeled as “Queen of Fake News”. In her Mocha Uson Blog in Facebook, she has been posting things which are obviously intended to promote President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. Promoting President Rodrigo Duterte is not bad at all, what makes it bad is that she is promoting him by the means of damaging the President’s opposition party, the Liberal Party, specifically Former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III. That is where she started posting series of fake news.
Fake News are everywhere, in social media, public, private, and many more. But the number one is social media , like facebook and twitter even in other sites like youtube, they use social media because it is easy to spread news using social media in just one click and that its your news will be publish and will be read by many people. Nowadays, wedont know what is true and what is not. Not all things we’ve seen with our naked eye is true. Sometimes its fake and not legit but sometimes we have been fooled and believe in these fake news. As a student I really believe in the “ walang pasok” fake news. We have to be careful in reading news and don be so gullible in what we read online or else we , you is one one of the victim of fake news. Fake News is a serious issue and its like social media virus that we should take action to it.
